Spring Racing Carnival

September through until November…

The Carnival takes in many races, but is renowned for three Group one jewels; the Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup.

The Caulfield Cup – the world’s richest 2400m handicap – is considered the key lead-up race to the Melbourne Cup. The Cox Plate, run over the unique distance of 2040 metres in front of 40,000 fans at Moonee Valley, is an attractive feature for Weight-For-Age horses.

The final of the ‘Big Three’ is the Melbourne Cup, a 3200 metre handicap run at Australia’s most famous racecourse, Flemington. Dubbed, ‘the race that stops a nation™’ it garners the type of public support most feature races can only dream of, with crowds in excess of 100,000.

As well as these three world-class events, an additional 51 races carry prize money of more than $200,000,000 including seven worth $1 million or more.
